Hi Ruth and congratulations. I was not part of the group that helped make you an artist, but I do like to hear of my classmates being recognized for their achievements. I have not been on the forumn in a long time. When I saw your post I wanted to say "Congrats".

Ruth , that is wonderful!!!!   I am so excited for you. I will look at your paintings tonight when I get home on my home computer. You have every right to be proud of yourself. That is quite an accomplishment. It does seem that alot of creative people are from Greenville. Now we can add you to that special group. Congratulations again....love ya, Marilyn

Scooter,

Thanks for the heads up and here goes.  I have lost touch with an old classmate and my old neighbor.  I hope, maybe, one of my classmates can help me locate this person.  His name is Terry King.  He has two sisters.  One is a year or so older.  Her name is Marilyn.  The younger sister is named Susan.  We grew up together on Patton Drive.  When I last contacted Terry he was living in the Atlanta, Ga area.  That was 20 years ago.

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Larry

Just wanted to say if you have not gone to Ruth Ragsdale's profile and looked at her paintings, please do. They are very impressive and I am so proud of her. So many talented people are from Greenville and alot still live there. Yea for the Delta. I will always love it!

Larry, how are you and Patsy doing? I remember Terry King but have no idea where he is. I will get Susan Hughes and Pat Williams on this. They are the best detectives I know.

Take care and love to you all, Marilyn

Patsy and I are doing great.  We went to see our daughter who lives in Boone, N.C.  last weekend.  Grandkids are so wonderful.  Her son is 4 and he is a very fun loving child.  Just being around him makes us feel better.

I appreciate you getting the "detectives" on finding Terry King.  I hope someone knows something about his where abouts.

Marilyn, you are the best.

Thanks again, Larry

Info for all you out of towners.

Mississippi River is currently due to crest at Greenville on May 15 at 60.0' and remain within two feet of that elevation until May 25th before startiing to fall. This crest may be upgraded pending further significant rainfall north of us.

This is approx. 2.5' higher than the 2008 crest and 1.7' higher than the crest most of you will remember in 1973 when the lower Delta south of Rolling Fork received significant flooding.

It is likely that this will become the "100 year flood event" on the river in this area.

The good news is that we are told that the main river levees are in good shape with a top elevation of 73'. Assuming that any sand boils or other problems that may develope can be dealt with we should be OK. To put things in perspective, the land side elevations in the Greenville area vary from 41-45' in elevation as compared to river guage.

This flood will put 10' of water in Schelben park and 5-10' in the homesite areas on Lake Ferguson.

You can follow the flood progression on the NOAA website by clicking "water", then "Jackson",

then "Greenville". Please give us your special prayers " for dry feet in the old hometown".

UPDATE: Anticipated crest raised to 64.5' at Greenville on May 15th. This WILL be the 100 year flood event!!!

The levees on the Yazoo River at Vicksburg may be topped by 1.5' causing major backwater flooding from Redwood to as far north as Hollandale. At the current crest, flooding may occur as high as 109' ASL. There is little doubt at this point that this will be BAD!

Further info distributed this afternoon by the Corp of Engineers now says the Yazoo River Basin will flood between 95'-107' ASL depending on the duration of the crest at Vicksburg, any futher crest upgrades, and whether or not there are any levee breaches in the Vicksburg area. This is at least somewhat better news than earlier. This would put the flood line from somewhere south of Hollandale to south of Rolling Fork depending on the final staus. I'm told the earlier estimated flood level of 109' may have inundated up to 900,000 acres in the south Delta

For those who may not have heard, Ann Hoggett Mixson's precious brother, Alan, passed away this past Monday, 5/2/11. Ann, her husband Jim and her mother are living in Greenville. Ann takes wonderful care of her mother who is in her 90's but as we all know this is a full time job. Please keep Ann and her family in your prayers.

Well the river has finally crested in Greenville and will begin a very slow fall. We will probably remain above flood stage until at least the first week of June. Authorities will continue patroling the levees 24/7 at least until the Greenville gage falls from 64.2' to 55-57' maybe around the first of June. There have been many sand boils and levee repairs and that will continue for a while but we are breathing at least a little bit better.

For the best series of aerial views of the flood conditions that I've seen to date, go to www.greenville.patrickfink.com

Doug was such a good guy.  Always had such a dry wit about him.  Last time I saw him he repaired my phone, of course that was back when Ma Bell had a phone in every home.  Same ole' Doug, keeping a straight face and making me laugh the whole time!  My prayers are with Connie and their family.

As most of you know, the chancellor and athletic director in their infinite ignorance decided that we needed a new mascot.  More political correctness gone awry.  Well I am working with the Colonel Reb Political Action Committee to try to pass an amendment that would return Colonel Rebel to the sidelines as Ole Miss's official mascot.  Now I know many of you are probably fans of other schools, but we could use your support.  I'm sure if someone was trying to take away your mascot you would not be happy either.  Paricularly given that it is for such a lame reason.  In order to get the amendment on the ballot in 2012, we have to get one hundred thousand signatures of registered voters.  There is a kickoff rally this Saturday night, July 23rd in Holly Springs starting at 5:00 p.m.  We are hoping that many people will show up to get this thing started.  We have one year to get all the signatures.  If you are interested in helping with this please contact me, and I can send you some blank petitions.

Thanks,

Sam Fleming

They did that with Southern Miss just before I went there, too.  They were the Generals, and they changed it to the Golden Eagles.
